Church Music CourseA one-day course on singing the psalms is being planned for a Saturday in February or March. It will be given by Mark Duley and Rev Tom Gordon and will address the new version on the psalms that is to appear in the forthcoming revised Prayer Book. Simple Organ MusicKeith Wakefield, MD of Stainer & Bell publishers, has replied to a reader’s request in Issue 1. “I note”, he writes, “there is a request for simple organ music. Although published decades ago, the twelve books of Organ Voluntaries by Caleb Simper (two- stave) still sell like hot cakes. They have never been out of print, and several have been reprinted only in the past few months.” Church Music CommitteeFurther to the list published in Soundboard 1, the committee has been strengthened by the cooption of Judy Cameron, Andrew Macknell and Donald Maxwell (Killiney/Ballybrack). Organists’ ReviewThe subscription department has Visiting Other OrgansPhilip Lawton writes as follows: Through playing for weddings and funerals, and “subbing”, I have managed to play over 100 organs in Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian and Roman catholic churches, and this is a list I hope to continue to add to over the coming years. I don’t know if there is anyone out there who shares my particular interest, but I wonder if other organists would be prepared to allow me to visit their instruments and try them out. Certainly If anyone would like to experience St Audeon’s, I will be happy to faciliatate them. It will be interesting to see If there are any “collectors” amongst us — we may even start a trend! Anyone who would like to invite Mr Lawton for a visit, should contact him directly, at 100 Ballygall Road East, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, Tel. 8348279. Also, anyone who would like to visit the organ in the Editor’s church (St Mary, Howth) will be very welcome to do so.
