Books, Journals, Magazines Sing to the WordThe sub title of this book describes its contents exactly: Suggested Hymns from the Church Hymnal Fjfth Edition for use with the Revised Common Lectionary and other special occasions. This Is an update of Bishop Edward Darling’s previous book “Choosing the Hymns” that appeared some fifteen or so years ago. Like Its predecessor, it hsts the recommended psalm, the readings and suitable hymns for all of the Sundays in the year, and for all of the other occasions on which hymns have to be chosen. A sine qua non for the organist/choir director. Published (like the hymnbook) by Oxford University Press, and available from APCK Dawson St, and the Resource Centre in Rathmines. THE ORGANThis is a 64-page quarterly journal published by Musical Opinion Ltd. It contains articles about organs (obviously!), organists, organ events, festivals and courses, reviews of organ music and recordings, lots of photographs and advertisements. Priory NewsPriory Records is described as Britain’s Premier Church Music label. For the collector of CDs of organ and choral music, its free newsletter appears twice each year. It contains interesting news items along with details of recent recordings from Priory, whose very detailed catalogue now lists 200+ titles by well known organists, conductors and choirs. THE BELLThis is a most interesting, full-colour and free newsletter from Stainer & Bell, and it gives lots of news items and articles of interest to the church musician. It is published “periodically”. Of the thirteen Stainer & Bell catalogues, relevant ones are T60 (Choral Music) and T61, Keyboard Music. CMQ (Church Music Quarterly)This is the journal of the Royal School of Church Music, and it contains a wealth of material of interest to the church musician — news items, articles on organs and choral music, photographs, letters, reviews of new music and CDs and lots of advertising material of relevance and interest. Details from the RSCM Organists’ ReviewThis is a 100-page quarterly journal published by the IAO (Incorporated Association of Organists) in the UK. It contains a wealth of interesting articles about organs and organists of note, organ mechanisms, organ events, advertisements, interesting correspondence, reviews of books, organ music and recordings. Much of it is in colour and and it very fully ifiustrated Choir & OrganThis 72-page journal, published bi-monthly, contains articles about performers and composers, descriptions of organs and how they work, interesting correspondence, advertisements, and reviews of music and CDs In-ChoirThis is the newsletter of the Association of Irish Choirs.
