Organist’s Dinner

The recent organists’ supper in the Red Cow Inn was enjoyed by about 60 people. An added feature this year was the after-dinner speaker, Rev Patrick Towers, who gave a witty talk that, at one stage, involved him plucking Sandra Bedlow from his audience and dancing with her! The musical offering was again prQvided by Graham Walsh and his three charming singers.

You can’t please everyone!

SOUNDBOARD is certainly filling a need. Thank you for all those letters and e-mails and for the constructive suggestions therein. Of course there were conflicting comments, such as “I enjoy reading it, although the technical article is way above a “non-organist! Keep up the good work” and in another letter “I would just like to say how much I enjoyed it. It is art excellent idea, and really well written and presented. I particularly enjoyed the most interesting feature by Stephen Adams. Thank you so muchfor all the effort put into it.”

Organ Festival

The BIG forthcoming event that will be of interest to organists is the International Organ & Choral Festival that starts on 22 June. The programme, given within this issue of SOUNDBOARD, should provide something for all tastes. Two of the novel items that we hope not to miss are the “Peep the Piper” recital! demonstration on the NCH organ by Guy Bovet, who, by reports, is a very entertaining person. This should provide ideas for us in introducing the organ to children. In the other event, in St Patrick’s Cathedral, the same Guy Bovet will improvise a film score to a classic silent movie. We haven’t had the likes of these two items before.

Website

The CMC website (http://www.churchmusicdublin.org/) will be launched during June and developed during the coming months. It will be an additional useful resource for church musicians generally. We would welcome suggestions for items that might be put on to the website and for your views generally.
